Kyle Dahlquist began his musical career at the age of 4, when he would watch his older sister’s piano lessons and then repeat what she had just done. From those early beginnings he branched out into jazz trombone and symphonic french horn, then into choir. By the time he graduated high school, he was playing trombone, trumpet, and singing in a successful regionally touring pop band. Over the years he has continued to explore other genres and other instruments, from playing theremin in an avant-garde jazz group to pedal steel guitar in an americana band to accordion in a cabaret ensemble. It was especially with the cabaret group that he honed his performance skills, both with and without instruments, appearing in multiple stage productions and a full length movie.
Currently Kyle is concentrating on brass, voice, pedal steel guitar, accordion and piano, and performing in a variety of locations – anywhere from a dive bar with a rock band to a solo accordion etude on the stage of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. He can also be heard on numerous recordings coming out of Kansas City. The overwhelming impression he leaves his fellow musicians with is that he is extremely musical, a great listener with the gift of subtlety and restraint, and he adds beautiful colors and textures to whatever he plays regardless of the instrument he uses.
